This online webinar of the Active Travel & Health Working Group will take a deep dive into POLIS member Stockholm’s pathway to reimagining urban spaces for a more sustainable and inclusive city.
Reallocation of space, prioritisation of active modes, and improvements in quality of life all have undeniable benefits for cities and people, but these rarely occur in a vacuum; rather, they occur as part of broader strategies and with supportive measures and processes. This webinar aims to explore these interconnected aspects through real-world examples, encouraging active participation and discussion among members.
Following one of the Working Group priority topics for 2026 that looks at how the reallocation and design of public space is done, this webinar will focus on one member’s hands-on experience to look closely into the topic. Our Member in the Spotlight is Stockholm, where we will deep-dive into their process of transforming their public spaces to create a more sustainable and inclusive present and future.
Stockholm will share its experience and work with the City Environment Zones, as well as how the city strategically uses a system demonstrator governance model to accelerate system transformation in collaboration with the private sector, academia, and civil society, in which the City Environment Zone efforts are taking part, and many other aspects. By drawing on the Stockholm experience, we hope to open a fruitful discussion on how to start, how to communicate, address challenges, and implement supporting measures for reallocation of space, prioritising active modes, and improving urban life.
As we shine a light on Stockholm, join us to discuss and learn from their experience in reallocating and redesign public space!
