The Active Travel & Health and Smart Mobility & Traffic Systems Working Groups join forces with the MegaBITS project and the city of Enschede to discuss various aspects of smart cycling in a roundtable.
An in-person side event from the International Conference on Smart Cycling, this roundtable will offer an open exchange on current directions and open questions around smart cycling in cities. Participants will reflect on how data, digital tools, and new approaches are influencing cycling policies and practices, and how these developments link to wider goals such as safety, health, and the integration of cycling within the management of urban mobility systems.
The roundtable discussion will build on two sessions from the Conference: 2A: Workshop: training the cycling & ITS reflex and 2B: Data-driven mobility/cycling policy. The main objective of the roundtable is to explore the support needed to advance smart cycling in Europe, with a concrete focus on ITS and data. We aim to produce a priority list of support needs identified by cities and regions.
The roundtable will explore the link between the two topics (ITS and data) and how they reinforce each other in practice in the context of smart cycling. We will start with a brief summary and key points from the previous sessions, followed by a discussion with cities and regions on what is currently missing to advance these actions and what the next steps could be. Finally, broaden the discussion to examine how these elements, and thus smart cycling, can be integrated into the management of the wider smart mobility system.
